Starting afresh this new year…

Happy new year!!! ” 2017 is finally here, well it has been here for a full 9 days and how many of us can say we’ve followed through our new year resolution(s)? Well, I made a resolution to stop taking soft drinks but let us say that’s still a work in progress. The year is still young and it’s not too late to start again, this article would give you useful tips that would help you achieve your goals and maybe set new ones while you’re at it.

  1. Don’t beat yourself
images-1       So you set goals last year for the new year and by January 1st you had broken it, then you decided “to hell” with the remaining goals. You feel bad and now you have no plans for the year, there’s a solution to this. It’s pretty simple, ignore the fact that the beginning of every year is January 1st and start your new year today!!! Make another resolution(s) and be determined to follow through.

2. Make “SMART” goals

The word SMART here is an acronym which stands for; Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-related. Everything we do should be centered on these factors, don’t set goals you can’t put a tag to (that’s talking about specificity and measurability). Be realistic and have a time frame to what you want to do, it helps in achieving the goals.

3. Put it in a Diary

Don’t just have these goals in your head, get a diary and out them down. This would go a long way in remembering the set goals, trust me I have made goals in my head and I have forgotten almost immediately after. Besides writing in a diary is so much fun almost like you’re talking to your external brain.

4. Reward yourself

Lastly, it’s ok to reward yourself after you have checked off some goals on your list, do something you’ve always wanted to do. Get a spa treatment, go to a Chinese restaurant, see a movie or if you are an adrenaline junkie like me then you can go bungee jumping. Do something for yourself and you’ll be eager to achieve your goals because you know the fun that’s ahead.
